Creative Space Art Gallery & Studio’s Emerge exhibition has returned for its ninth edition featuring 16 local artists who are melding the contrasting influences of Brunei’s contemporary culture and tradition to create new art.
The latest emerge titled Cultural Reset is the first curated by Ana Metussin and Nina Yahya and looks to explore less conventional arts including mixed media and several installations alongside paintings with novel imagery.
In her opening speech, Ana said that the youth will have a role in defining the new direction of Bruneian culture and art, with the gallery hoping to provide an platform for the new generation to express and document their work.
The majority of the pieces are for sale, with entry being ticketed to help generate revenue and prevent overcrowding at the gallery.
Emerge was first held in 2016 as the Sengkurong-based gallery’s first exhibition for the wider Brunei public to discover the work of up and coming local artists.
Emerge 9 runs from December 19, 2020 to January 10, 2021. Entry to Emerge is $10 and $15 for unlimited access. Viewing hours are from Wednesday to Sunday from 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm.
Participating artists are Aainaa Bakir, Abyadh Othman, Adriana Audady, Azim Kadri, Bunga Daisy, Elroy Ramantan, Emi Kashikoi, Faiq Airudin, Hafizah Nor, Khaisnaps, Khairul Sharbini, Nazurah Usop, Ryan Chua, Senja, Lu Shir Mao and Wryck Ret.
