NGO Creative Enterprising Bruneians (CEBs) are launching a training centre in Subok early next month aimed at teaching youth skills to increase their employability or start their own businesses.
CEBs founders Dk Ratna Siti Nooraidah Pg Dato Paduka Hj Hamzad (pictured main R) and Nabilah Jeffery (pictured main L) said the training would develop creative skills beginning with photography and graphic design in short, digestible formats for youth to upskill themselves, as well as entrepreneurship workshops for youth to kickstart their businesses.
All classes will be initially organized in the form of one-off workshops held across a few days, conducted by industry practitioners and priced between $35 to $100.
Dk Ratna said the training space in Subok is located within the residence-turned-office space of local sports startup BruActiv, and has plans to roll out classes in financial literacy, digital marketing, and social media management.
“We’re aiming to combat unemployment amongst youth, so we’re focusing on workshops that will hone their skills for commercial purposes and entrepreneurship,” said Dk Ratna, who founded CEBS after joining the US-funded Young Southeast Asian Leaders’ Initiative (YSEALI).
“We also want to help local NGOs in building sustainable social business models so that they can continue to grow and sustain their development independently.”
The first programme at the centre will be the Youth Entrepreneurship Startup Workshop this March 17 to 19 which will be conducted by local entrepreneurs and will cover developing and validating business ideas and outlining how to put them into action.
The programme is priced at $35 per person and is open for those between 18 to 35-years-old.
